I wish I had a cool story for how I was introduced to Tobias Wolff. I just sort of just picked him up a year or so back. The first book of his I read was This Boy’s Life . I was not ready to have my life interrupted in the way that book caused it to be. It consumed me in a way I’d say about only five books have ever been able to do. He’s a tremendously powerful writer and it just so happens that I relate to many of the feelings Wolff touches on in that story. He has written a couple other books and some short stories all of which I recommend but particularly This Boy’s Life especially to any male that felt shitty when they were younger. » Read the rest of this entry «

Shades on, Windows Down

After the game finished, I spent a few minutes catching reaction and adding my own; then I got back to thumbing through this book I’ve been meaning to finish reading for a couple of days. I was sipping something amber and feeling pretty good. My week has been shitty. If I tabulated my time in billable hours, I’d be on pace for 60-plus by Friday evening. An Olympic Related Thought on Ryan Miller

When Crosby scored in the overtime period of the gold medal game, I was more than a little bummed. I don’t handle disappointment well. It sticks with me for awhile. I really liked that Olympic team. Slow Starts and Smoking

If I were to guess, I would say about eighty-percent of the students in the thick of studying for and in the process of choosing which medical school to attend smoke cigarettes. I remember when I first started smoking. It wasn’t a decision made out of peer pressure rather it began as something I used to keep myself busy with on the walk home from the bars.
