The other day I read an interesting collaborative piece published on Grantland in which the authors reviewed the collective musical sounds and stylings of A Tribe Called Quest. A few days ago, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail wrote a story on Tim Connolly that included some interesting quotes from Ryan Miller. Here is Mirtle, quoting Miller, who is referring to Connolly:
“I think some people in the media [in Buffalo] felt like he owed them explanations beyond what he cared to share, and it just became a little bit of a vendetta.”
There was an incredible reaction to this story in Buffalo. It does seem like people fold into media critics when the news is slow. Opinions on these matters are always strong. » Read the rest of this entry «

For those born between 1980 and 1990 like myself, no single event has affected our collective world view more than 9/11. We grew into adults from 2000 to 2010 and that decade is defined by the global struggle against terrorism and its attributable bodies.
A major cultural fixture during that particular time was the Harry Potter book/film series. If you think about it, the timing is really quite remarkable. 9/11/01 signified the beginning of a period in history where the slightest threat of a terrorist attack frightened people half to death. Meanwhile, just starting to gain a following, is a coming-of-age story in which the protagonist is pitted against arguably the greatest fictional terrorist ever created. » Read the rest of this entry «

What really set the stage for this off-season was the Brian Campbell trade. The Campbell contract the Blackhawks signed in 2008 is one of the worst contracts in the post-lockout era. I certainly thought he was immovable. Campbell is, to put it simply, a defensemen who struggles to defend. Apparently his character and pedigree make him somewhat of an appealing player. » Read the rest of this entry «
